January 1999 A Special Christmas Thanks Thank to everyone who participated in bringing presents to the December Pack meeting for the two families we were assisting. We have received a very nice letter from Sister Carmel O'Malley of Our Lady of Lourdes School in Hitchcock expressing her appreciation for our efforts. Her letter reads, in part, as follows: "What a wonderful thing you young people have done to help others experience what Christmas is all about! Christ came to share His life with us and you are sharing with Christ's people your gifts of love. Thank you." Pack 505 Receives Awards Some of the Pack's adult leaders attended the annual Golden Arrow District awards dinner last week. Pack 505 was recognized in the program for being a quality unit and having an on-time recharter. In addition, the Pack was number 4 in the District for 1998 with 17 boys having received the Arrow of Light award. Pinewood Derby Workshop a Success The Pinewood Derby workshop went very well earlier this month. Special thanks go to John Stavinoha, the Pack's Pinewood Derby coordinator, for getting everything arranged. We are also grateful, Once again, to Jock Mueller, the Troop 505 committee chair, for furnishing all of the equipment. Both John and Jock were present for the entire workshop to make sure that everything ran smoothly. ![]() Pinewood Derby Schedule As everyone knows, this upcoming weekend is the Derby itself. To help make sure that the races go off without a hitch on Saturday, please come to the gym Friday night between 7:00 and 8:30 to have your car weighed and take a test run down the track. That way you can make any last-minute adjustments and ensure that your car is all set for the actual racing. As we have previously announced, cars will not be allowed to race if they have weights falling off them, if wheels come off during a race, if there is wet paint on them, or there are other problems of that nature. The race schedule on Saturday is as follows: Tigers 8:30 Wolves 10:00 Bears 11:00 1st year Webelos 12:00 2nd year Webelos 1:00
PLEASE ARRIVE 20 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED RACE TIME SO YOU CAN GET CHECKED IN AND WE CAN START THE RACES ON TIME. As you know, this year each age group is divided into two categories of cars -- standard and modified (depending on whether or not the wheelbase has been lengthened). A champion will be crowned for each category in every age group. Webelos Woods The Pack's three Webelos dens enjoyed a tremendous Webelos Woods campout at Camp Brosig last weekend. The weather was fantastic and there were many activities and demonstrations put on by various Boy Scout troops in the Golden Arrow District. Troop 505 provided the meals for our boys, and we really appreciate the work they did on our behalf. Upcoming Events January's busy schedule for the Pack will continue in early February. Scout Sunday..Saturday On Saturday, February 6, we will celebrate Scout Sunday at the 5:00 Mass (with Troop 505). We ask all boys and adult leaders to attend, in full uniform. Please gather at 4:45 just outside the main entrance to the church. We will enter in a procession carrying the American flag and the Pack and Troop flags. Coffee and Donuts On Sunday, February 7, the Pack will host the coffee after the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 Masses. ![]() Blue and Gold Banquet On Thursday, February 11, we will enjoy our annual Blue and Gold Banquet, catered once again this year by Skeeter's. Everything will be provided except dessert, which each den should bring. (Please, only cookies. Cakes and pies pose too many clean-up challenges.) Each den is also responsible for its own centerpiece(s). (Den leaders need to bring headcounts to the January 28 Pack committee meeting.) Members of Den 6, our 2nd year Webelos den, will go through t he Arrow of Light ceremony and "cross over" into Boy Scouts. ![]() Spring Campout Looking further ahead, make sure your calendar is marked for the spring family campout on March 27-28 at the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation. Under the leadership of John and Vicki Brentin, our campout coordinators, plans are underway for a very special event. |
