Den 7 Elissa Trip
Den 7 families and friends spent an evening aboard the Elissa in June 2000.
At 4:30 PM on Saturday they ate at the Fisherman's Wharf restaurant.
At 6:30 PM they entered the Texas Seaport Museum, where they were
oriented to the events of the evening and saw a movie on the
restoration of the boat.
Next they stashed their personal gear and were enlisted into service,
after which they boarded the boat and began their work.
They hoisted the mizzenstaysail, made and hoisted their flag, and
learned the terms for the boat and the riggings.
They learned what a line was, and how to tie knots.
They toured the boat.
Finally they saw a slide show and began their watches
at 11:30 PM. Everyone was assigned a 1 hour watch during the night.
Many events occurred, including an alien encounter.
Amazing what a little sleep deprivation will do!
|
The next morning they had breakfast - French toast, orange juice and
Canadian bacon. Then they watched another slide show, had a tug of war,
gathered their stuff and left the boat. The boys who attended were
able to achieve the Texas Badge, and everyone who attended had a
wonderful time!
