Make sure each boy has the opportunity to visit a Boy Scout Troop.
- Contact each Troop in advance.
- Make sure the Scoutmaster and Scouts make the Webelos feel
welcome.
- Identify the strengths and planned activities of the Troop so that
the Webelos get excited about joining.

Attend Webelos Leader training... a trained leader will have a better
program and this increases his likelihood of Webelos wanting to join a
Boy Scout Troop.

Work with Cubmaster to design a memorable Arrow of Light ceremony...
and recognize the boys making the transition into a Scout unit.
- Invite Boy Scouts and Scout Leaders to the Webelos graduation
ceremony.
- Make the Webelos feel special when they transition into Scouts.

Go to Webelos Woods... Webelos will see Scouting in action and will want
to join.
|
|
Schedule joint Webelos and Scouting activities, so they can see Scouting
in action.
|
|
For Fourth grade Webelos, encourage attendance at Twilight Camp or Resident
Camp.
|
|
For Fifth grade Webelos, start talking up Boy Scout summer camp.
|
|
Design your Webelos program to include more Scoutcraft, so the boys
can get a taste of Boy Scout activities.
|
|
Consider attending the District training for Scoutmasters... This will
increase your knowledge of Boy Scouts and you will be better prepared
for helping the Webelos with the Transition.

Ideas for Cubmasters and Pack Committee
|
|
Make this a topic at your monthly Pack Committee meeting.
|
|
Appoint an adult leader to assist Webelos Den Leaders with the
Webelos-to-Scout Transition process.
|
|
Have a ceremony recognizing the boys making the transition at your Blue
and Gold Banquet or other appropriate ceremony.
|
|
Recognize the parents assisting with the Webelos-to-Scout Transition.
|
|
Encourage Webelos attendance at Webelos Woods... Once they see Scouts
in action they will want to join.
|
|
Visit your local Troop(s) and get to know the Troop Committee and
Scoutmaster.
|
|
Encourage utilization of Den Chiefs... These will be the best recruiters
for Boy Scouts.
|
|
Conduct joint events with local Troops including Webelos participation
in Boy Scout camp-outs and service projects.
|
|
Promote Boy Scout summer camp and get the boys excited about joining
Boy Scouts so they can participate in Summer Camp.
|
|
Make sure each Webelos has the opportunity to visit at least one,

are coordinating the Webelos-to-Scout Transition.

Identify the Packs which normally provide Webelos to your Troop.

Get to know the Cubmaster and Pack Committe Chairmen of the Packs which
normally provide Scouts to your Troop.

Reach out to these Packs to get to know the potential Scouts.
|
|
Volunteer to provide Den Chiefs to these Packs... the Den Chiefs will be
good recruiters for your Troop.
|
|
Identify activities which can be done jointly with Webelos dens and
invite them to attend these activities.
|
|
Attend Webelos Woods and get to know potential Webelos recruits.
|
|
Attend Roundtable and solicit ideas from other Scoutmasters on how to
improve the Webelos-to-Scout Transition.
|
|
When a Webelos den visits your Troop meetings, make a special effort to
make the boys feel welcome.
- Describe your program and advancement.
- Describe your Troop meetings and frequency.
- Describe how often your Troop goes camping, including Summer and Winter
Camp plans and Philmont plans.
- Describe the Troop Leadership including the Troop Committee and other
adult leadership.
- Involve the Webelos in your program during the visit and make it fun.
- Make sure the Scouts are prepared to help with this recruiting process...
The Webelos den visit to the Troop is one of the most important steps in
recruiting new Scouts.
